Cubs triumph over Nationals with a home run barrage, with Swanson sending one 3 times across the plate, leading to an 11-5 victory.

The Chicago Cubs extended their winning streak to three games with an impressive 11-5 victory over the Washington Nationals. The Cubs' offence was on fire, with several players contributing to the team's total.

Dansby Swanson kicked off the scoring for the Cubs with a three-run homer in the first inning. The Nationals tried to respond, but Luis Garcia Jr. hit a crucial two-run home run for Washington in the fourth inning, narrowing the gap. However, the Cubs' offence continued to shine, with Reese McGuire, Nico Hoerner, and Ian Happ each hitting solo home runs.

Happ's solo home run in the eighth inning was a significant blow to the Nationals' hopes of a comeback. Pete-Crow Armstrong also contributed with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. Daylen Lile added two RBIs and a pair of triples for the Nationals, but it wasn't enough to prevent the Cubs' win.

On the mound, Javier Assad (2-1) delivered a strong performance for the Cubs, working for 5 1/3 innings. Assad earned his second straight win, allowing just three runs on six hits. Meanwhile, Jake Irvin (8-11) struggled for the Nationals, dropping his fourth straight start. Irvin allowed Chicago's first seven runs in 3 1/3 innings.

The upcoming game will feature a matchup between Nationals RHP Brad Lord (4-8, 4.34 ERA) and Cubs LHP Matthew Boyd (12-7, 2.94) on Saturday afternoon. Boyd will be looking to continue his impressive form, while Lord will aim to secure a victory for the Nationals.

With Kyle Tucker still sidelined due to a calf injury, the Cubs are hopeful to have him back in the lineup, potentially as a designated hitter, this weekend. Tucker left Tuesday's game against Atlanta with the injury, and his return would be a significant boost for the Cubs' offence.

In the meantime, the Cubs will look to build on their current winning streak and continue their impressive form. The Nationals, on the other hand, will look to regroup and mount a comeback in the next game.
