Customs in Dusseldorf discover multiple breaches in oversight of motorway transportation and parcel services within the forwarding, transport, and logistics industries.
The Main Customs Office in Düsseldorf has concluded a successful day of checks on November 12, 2024, focusing on the transport and logistics industry. A total of 75 customs officers from Düsseldorf and Wuppertal conducted checks at motorway service areas on the A3 and A59.
The checks aimed to ensure compliance with regulations regarding social security, the payment of the statutory minimum wage, and the employment of workers. During the checks, the customs officers identified several cases that require further investigation.
In Düsseldorf, customs officers suspected contribution evasion in 11 cases, minimum wage violation in 8 cases, sham self-employment in 3 cases, illegal employment of foreigners in 1 case, and benefit fraud in 3 cases. Additionally, in Wuppertal, customs officers suspected violations of the immediate notification obligation in 10 cases.
The German customs authority (Zoll) also supported the police within their own jurisdiction during the checks. The investigations and evaluations by the customs will take some time, but the Main Customs Office Düsseldorf plans to repeat such checks in the future.
