Customs Office Münster joins national initiative to curb criminal activities linked to clans

The Main Customs Office in Münster, Germany, recently led a nationwide review aimed at combating black market work and illegal employment practices. The review, which took place across several districts including Borken, Coesfeld, Steinfurt, Warendorf, and the city area of Münster, involved 36 employees from the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit (FKS) and the Control Unit Verkehrswege (KEV).

The review saw inspections at various establishments, including gaming establishments, cafés and restaurants, petrol station shops, kiosks, hairdressing salons, and the construction industry. A total of 25 locations were inspected, and 55 people were questioned about their employment status.

Administrative offence proceedings were initiated against an employer for violations of the Minimum Wage Act. Criminal proceedings were initiated against the employers in three cases of illegal employment. Customs officers discovered three cases of illegal employment due to a lack of residence and work permits. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether two employers violated the payment of the legal minimum wage.

In addition to the Customs Office, the police and the Regional Government of Münster were also involved in the review. An employer is facing criminal proceedings for withholding social security contributions from his workers' wages. Two other cases involving a possible breach of employment laws are still under investigation.
