Customs Office Open Day in Schweinfurt on July 13, 2024 - Discovering the Variety of Customs Operations Revealed
On Saturday, July 13, 2024, the Main Customs Office Schweinfurt will open its doors to the public for an Open Day at its Schweinfurt customs office (LondonstraĆe 24). This event, scheduled from 10:00 to 15:00, invites students, interested citizens, and representatives from politics and partner agencies to gain insights into the world of customs.
The day will commence with media representatives being invited to visit at 10:00 and participate in a guided tour at 10:30. During the tour, participants can learn about the requirements for employment, the course of training, and dual studies at the customs office.
The Main Customs Office Schweinfurt, the regional customs authority for Lower and Upper Franconia, covers a vast area that includes the entire district of Lower Franconia and almost the entire district of Upper Franconia. The office, which employs around 700 staff, collected 1.8 billion euros for the federal budget last year.
Besides collecting customs and taxes, the Main Customs Office focuses on consumer protection, ensuring smooth international goods traffic, preventing and combating undeclared work, cross-border serious and organized crime, and money laundering. Courts have imposed over 53 years of imprisonment for offenses related to black work and illegal employment. Last year alone, Schweinfurt customs officers seized over 400,000 smuggled cigarettes.
The Open Day will feature information booths covering various topics, such as revenue collection, customs duties, import and export clearance of goods, enforcement of sanctions in foreign trade, measures for species protection, aspects of smuggling and black work combat, and the prosecution of criminal offenses and administrative offenses.
Activities for the youngest visitors will be available throughout the day, and highlights include presentations of customs dogs at 11:00 and 14:00, as well as demonstrations of various control situations in different enforcement areas of customs.
