Customs officials at Furth in the forest confiscate roughly 3.3 kilograms of amphetamines from the A3 highway; two Austrian nationals temporarily detained
In a significant development, customs officers from the Regensburg Customs Office have seized over 3 kilograms of amphetamines during a control on the A3 near Bogen. The seizure led to the provisional arrest of two Austrian citizens, who were on their way home from Frankfurt to Austria.
The investigation into the suspected smuggling activities began with a vehicle control at the Gildehaus border crossing on the A30 highway. The further investigations were taken over by the Customs Investigation Office Munich.
Upon searching the vehicle, customs officers discovered a backpack hidden under a floor mat in the footwell behind the driver's seat. Inside the backpack, they found three vacuum-sealed packets containing the illicit substances.
One of the men admitted to carrying approximately 3.1 grams of the herbal mixture "Spice - White Tiger" in the passenger-side door pocket. The other man denied carrying any declarable goods during the inspection.
Thomas Schell, head of the Control Unit for Traffic Routes in Furth im Wald, explained that the law provides for a prison sentence of at least two years for the export of hard drugs in a significant quantity. The term "smuggling" in this context refers to the prohibited export of narcotics from the customs territory of the European Union.
The identification procedure was carried out by the Federal Police Inspectorate in Furth im Wald. The two men were provisionally arrested for suspected smuggling, possession, and intended export of 3,013 grams of amphetamines, in connection with the Narcotics Act.
