Customs officials in Furth im Wald intercept over 3 kilograms of amphetamines on the A3 highway, leading to the arrest of two Austrian nationals on preliminary charges.

In a significant development, customs officers from the Regensburg Customs Office in Germany seized over 3 kilograms of amphetamine at a control stop on the A3 near Bogen. The seizure led to the provisional arrest of two Austrian citizens.

According to the background information provided by the Regensburg Customs Office, the incident took place during a routine check. The herbal mixture "Spice - White Tiger" was found in a plastic bag in the passenger-side door compartment, and the narcotics were hidden in a backpack concealed under a floor mat in the footwell behind the driver's seat.

One of the men admitted to carrying the herbal mixture and to consuming drugs about an hour before the control. The men, however, denied carrying any goods subject to declaration and denied ownership of the backpack containing the amphetamine.

Further investigations were taken over by the Customs Investigation Office Munich. The investigators conducting the further investigations against the arrested men were the Kosovo Police, specifically investigators from the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes, working in cooperation with the Kosovo Special Prosecutor's Office.

The identification procedure was carried out by the Federal Police Inspectorate Furth im Wald. A criminal investigation was initiated against the two men for suspected smuggling in connection with the Narcotics Act, as well as possession and intended export of over 3 kilograms of amphetamine.

Thomas Schell, head of the Control Unit for Transport Routes Furth im Wald, explained that the law provides for a prison sentence of at least two years for the export of hard drugs in a significant quantity.

The term smuggling refers to the prohibited export of particularly monitored goods, in this case, prohibited narcotics, from the customs territory of the European Union. The passenger explained he was seeking distance from home due to marital problems.

This seizure underscores the importance of vigilance and enforcement in combating the illegal drug trade. The Regensburg Customs Office continues to work diligently to protect the community and uphold the law.
