Cybertruck owner alleges Tesla is imposing penalties for driving vehicle manually instead of relying on FSD; stated, "I'm suffering sanctions for liking manual driving of my Cybertruck"

In the world of electric vehicles, the Tesla Cybertruck has been making waves, but not all news about it has been positive. David, a Cybertruck owner from Virginia, has shared his concerns about insurance providers and their treatment of the unique vehicle on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum.

Over the past few months, some insurance providers have canceled policies specifically for the Cybertruck. Reasons given for these cancellations include the truck's unusual design, high repair costs, and low production numbers. One such instance occurred last year when GEICO terminated some Cybertruck insurance policies under the personal vehicle category.

David, who prefers driving his Cybertruck at night and manually, has been penalized with a higher insurance premium due to his preferred driving habits. He is seeking experiences from other Cybertruck owners about accident claims, OEM parts usage, and scheduling repairs at Tesla centers through non-Tesla insurers.

David is uncertain if Tesla repair centers serve only Tesla Insurance customers. He is also concerned about not receiving the same integrated service he got with Tesla Insurance if he switches. Despite these concerns, he is considering dropping his Tesla insurance coverage and switching to another provider.

However, switching to another insurance provider might not be a good idea due to the unfavorable perception of the Cybertruck by insurance companies. In Germany, where the Cybertruck is not yet widely available, ongoing trade agreements may soon facilitate its import without EU modifications, which might influence insurers’ offerings in the near future.

Tesla Insurance determines monthly coverage cost based on multiple real-time driving inputs. While Cybertruck owners can still obtain coverage through GEICO's commercial vehicle program, it typically incurs higher costs. David has signed up for Tesla Insurance, but he is still seeking advice from other Cybertruck owners about their experiences with non-Tesla insurers.

In response to these concerns, David is considering starting a separate thread on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum for actual accident claims involving the vehicle. He hopes this will provide a platform for Cybertruck owners to share their experiences and offer advice to others facing similar issues.

As the Cybertruck becomes more common on the roads, it will be interesting to see how insurance providers adapt to the unique challenges posed by this revolutionary vehicle. In the meantime, David's story serves as a reminder for Cybertruck owners to be vigilant and informed about their insurance options.
