The Indiana Fever's playoff push continues to intensify, as they secured a thrilling victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday night, winning 76-75. Odyssey Sims was the hero of the night, scoring the team's final five points, including the game-winning runner with 13.6 seconds left. Kelsey Mitchell added 12 points to the Fever's score.

However, the team's postseason run may unfold without its star rookie, Caitlin Clark. Clark has been sidelined with a groin injury suffered on July 17 against the Connecticut Sun and has no confirmed return date yet. The franchise is weighing the bigger picture, ensuring Clark is healthy and ready to lead the Fever well beyond 2025.

Clark is currently limited to light participation and has no confirmed timetable for her return. Fever head coach Stephanie White has reiterated that Clark will need multiple full-contact practices before any return is considered.

In the meantime, Aliyah Boston, the Fever's All-Star centre, anchored the team with a career-high six steals, 22 points, and 11 rebounds. Hall of Famer Lisa Leslie and WNBA legend Cynthia Cooper have advised caution with Clark's recovery, urging her to prioritise full recovery over rushing back too soon.

Leslie warns of the risks of a deep groin injury, stating it can cause recurring issues. She suggests that Clark should not return this season for the Fever, even if they secure a playoff spot. Leslie believes it may not be worth risking Clark's long-term career for a potential first-round playoff match against Minnesota.

The Fever's magic number to clinch a playoff berth dropped to three with five games remaining. The team will need to rely on their depth and resilience as they navigate the final stretch of the season in the hope of a healthy and fully-recovered Caitlin Clark leading them in the postseason.

In a separate matter, Dawn Staley, another WNBA legend, stated she would have accepted the New York Knicks job if offered to her.

As the Fever continue their playoff push, the health and recovery of Caitlin Clark remain a delicate balance between short-term gain and long-term security. The team and its fans will eagerly await Clark's return to the court.
