On September 6, 2025, a serious traffic collision occurred on Hattinger Straße, involving a Mercedes-Benz driven by a 46-year-old resident of Schwelmer. According to reports, the driver, who has had their driver's license confiscated, apparently fell asleep at the wheel and drifted into oncoming traffic.

The incident, which took place around 3:40 PM, resulted in a head-on collision with a Mazda driven by a 59-year-old woman from Schwelmer. Both vehicles were rendered non-operational following the accident.

The 46-year-old sustained minor injuries, while the 59-year-old victim suffered life-threatening injuries. The latter was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment after initial care at the scene.

The Hattinger Straße was fully closed during the investigation to ensure safety and allow the specialized traffic accident investigation team to carry out their work effectively.
