On the evening of July 2, 2025, a significant incident occurred on the Main-Danube Canal near FĂźrth-OberfĂźrberg. A passenger ship, travelling from Nuremberg towards Erlangen, grazed the FĂźrberger Steg pedestrian bridge.

The exact cause of the collision is currently under investigation. According to a statement from the Middle Franconia Police Headquarters, the incident occurred at approximately 22:10. Emergency services, including firefighters, water rescue teams, paramedics, and the Technical Relief Agency, were swiftly dispatched to the scene.

The passenger ship sustained damage to its upper deck, estimated to be a low five-figure sum. The stability of the bridge is currently questionable, and a follow-up inspection will be conducted the next day. The bridge also sustained damage, with estimates putting the cost of repairs in the tens of thousands of euros.

Approximately 80 passengers and 40 crew members were on board the passenger ship at the time of the incident. Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported. Officers from the FĂźrth Police Station were called to the scene and temporarily closed the Main-Danube Canal to shipping. The canal was reopened to shipping shortly after 00:05.

The captain of the ship has not been publicly disclosed. If more information becomes available, it will be shared accordingly.
