In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Bottrop is taking significant steps towards promoting eco-friendly transport options. Starting from September 1, 2025, the city plans to construct four new mobility stations within its urban area, a move aimed at encouraging more people to choose sustainable transport within a robust public transit network.

The project's financing comes from a unique collaboration. The city-owned company "Gesellschaft für Bauen und Wohnen Bottrop mbH" (GBB) provides the primary funding, with additional support from NRW.BANK, a financial institution focused on housing and environmental-friendly mobility initiatives, including electric car parking and public charging stations in Bottrop.

The new mobility stations will serve as central transfer points for various sustainable modes of transport. Cyclists will have access to bike racks, repair stations, and lockers, while a dedicated parking solution for e-scooters will prevent them from being scattered across central plazas.

The city administration requests understanding that there may be minor disruptions for pedestrians during construction. To simplify the usage of the mobility stations, a uniform signage system, aligned with statewide design guidelines, will be implemented. Modern wayfinding signs and pillars will also be installed to enhance the appeal of the mobility stations.

Each station will have direct access to public transit, ensuring seamless transitions between different modes of transport. The total project cost for building the new mobility stations is 267,000 euros, with approximately 88% of the cost covered by funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia under the guidelines for promoting connected mobility and mobility management (FoRi-MM).
