Day of Action 'Tour dementia': Detailed Itinerary for Supporting Dementia Patients and Families
On September 17, 2025, Bergisch Gladbach will host an action day focused on Dementia, coinciding with World Alzheimer's Day. The event, which will take place on the city center market square from 2:30 PM, promises a varied program aimed at sharing knowledge, supporting relatives, and facilitating encounters.
The action day is jointly organised by the Aging Support Office of the city of Bergisch Gladbach and the Regional Office for Aging, Care, and Dementia Bergisches Land. The day's activities include a bicycle tour, the "Tour Demenz", which will stop in Bergisch Gladbach, and a series of informative lectures and interactive activities.
Senior Physician Meike Jacobsen from the EVK Bergisch Gladbach will kick off the lectures with a talk titled "Dement - what now?" at the DRK Refrather Treff at 10:00 AM. Claudia Freudenberger from the guardianship office of the city of Bergisch Gladbach will follow with a lecture on "Legal representation options in dementia - legal guardianship is good, but a living will is better" at 12:00 PM. Nicole Sutschet, Police Sergeant and traffic safety advisor of the accident prevention, will conclude the lectures with a talk on "Driving with dementia - assistance for relatives and interested parties" at the Volkshochschule Bergisch Gladbach from 5:30-7:00 PM.
The city library will have an information stand and interactive activity, and the contact office for self-help care will provide information for caring relatives. Care counseling Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis will be available for consultation, information, and materials.
ADFC Rhein-Berg will offer an e-tandem to try out, and the Aging support office will provide information and materials. Registration is required for the "In rhythm of memory" dance offer at Villa Zanders by September 15, 2025, and for the "Sensory experience in rhythm of memory" tour with curator Maike Sturm at 4:00 PM, focusing on encountering selected artworks from the exhibition "Eckart Hahn: Papiertiger".
The bicycle group, accompanied by Radwerk (Caritas), will arrive on the market square around 3:25 PM and will be welcomed by the First Deputy Mayor Anna Maria Scheerer and other representatives. The action day aims to raise awareness about dementia and provide support to those affected and their families.
