DC Bus Drivers Engage in Practical Debates, Joining In
The Davao City Interim Bus Service (DC Bus) is set to revolutionise public transportation in the city, with the first batch of drivers from the Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) completing their practical training and assessment on August 19, 2025.
The 22 bus captains, who have obtained NC III driving certifications, were part of the Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (Davao Bus Project) under the current government. These drivers received additional guidance from Tesda instructors to ensure they can handle the new 12-meter long buses effectively.
The buses, equipped with wheelchair-accessible entrances for persons with disabilities (PWDs), will not carry advertisements, according to the information provided.
Christopher Alcardo, one of the participants, organised the training sessions and practical assessments to improve the group's readiness for the launch of the DC Bus. The training was the first component of a one-month skills development training program, which also included training for 22 bus assistants.
Alcardo stated that the bus captains had reached the final test drive, where they were given additional practice to ensure the bus reached Davao city perfectly. The buses are scheduled to arrive in September, with the DC Bus expected to start operations in October.
The DC Bus will operate as an interim solution for the transportation problem in the city, complementing the Peak Hours Augmentation Bus Services (Phabs) and Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) that will operate from Mondays to Saturdays during peak hours.
The service provided by the DC Bus will be free for Dabawenyo residents on a "first-come, first-served basis" (CIO-Davao). The drivers' practical driving and internship exercises were closely monitored by a committed individual named Bernhard.
Furthermore, the buses will be monitored through CCTV cameras and an intelligent bus fleet system. The DC Bus is set to provide a modern and accessible public transportation solution for the residents of Davao City.
