Fatal Collision Closes A1 Motorway Near Cologne
A tragic incident occurred on the A1 motorway towards Dortmund on Friday evening, resulting in the closure of a section of the highway and causing a significant traffic disruption.
The collision took place between the Cologne-North interchange and the Niehl exit, around 5:30 PM. The accident involved a fatal collision between an Audi and a stationary tractor-trailer.
The local police department responsible for that section of the Autobahn near Cologne, typically coordinated by the Cologne police traffic accident investigation unit, was quick to respond. They deployed an accident investigation team to the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
As a result of the collision, the A1 motorway was closed from the Cologne-North interchange towards Dortmund. Vehicles caught in the traffic jam were promptly redirected to the Cologne-North interchange.
Sadly, the 43-year-old driver of the Audi died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was 34 years old, was not reported to have any injuries.
