Decline in Dresden's Child Population

In the heart of Dresden-Blasewitz, a significant change is imminent. The municipal kindergarten "Villa Mittendrin", situated on Kretschmerstraße 23, will be closing its doors on Friday.

The building, initially constructed in 1908 as a villa for a factory owner, has a rich history spanning over 113 years. However, for the past 78 years, it has served as a childcare facility, providing a nurturing environment for countless children.

The transformation from a private villa to a kindergarten took place in 1947. Since then, the building has been used as an after-school care facility and a kindergarten for children aged 3 to 6.

Despite its long-standing service, the demand for childcare places at the location has significantly decreased, leading to the city's decision to close the kindergarten. The city of Dresden, responsible for the closure, has cited a declining number of children as the reason.

The kindergarten, which has been in operation for 78 years, has not always been located in the current building. It started using the building in 1947. Prior to its use as a kindergarten, the building was not previously associated with childcare.

The building's architectural style classifies it as a listed building, adding to its historical significance. The last head of the kindergarten, who will conduct the closure on Friday, is not specifically named in the available sources.

The closing of the kindergarten "Villa Mittendrin" marks the end of an era in Dresden-Blasewitz. The building, which was initially constructed for a factory owner, will now embark on a new chapter in its long history.
