Decrease in Peru's Inflation Reaches Seven-Year Low at 1.11% Year-on-Year in August
In a recent development, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Lima Metropolitan, Peru, has plummeted to 1.11% year-on-year in August, marking the lowest CPI since 2018. This decline is attributed to lower prices observed in various consumption divisions.
The food sector, while witnessing an increase in the prices of fruits, meat, and coffee, has seen decreases in the prices of fish and seafood, vegetables, and other food products. Inflation, as measured by the CPI, has also decreased by 0.29% compared to the previous month.
On the contrary, the prices that increased the most occurred in furniture, household articles, and ordinary household maintenance (0.24%), miscellaneous goods and services (0.22%), and restaurants and hotels (0.20%). The largest price decreases were recorded in food and non-alcoholic beverages (-1.05%), housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels (-0.94%), transportation (-0.15%), and alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and stimulants (-0.02%).
The Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) has maintained interest rates at 4.50% in its last monetary policy meeting, held two weeks ago. The governor of the BCRP is Julio Velarde.
It is worth noting that the accumulated inflation so far this year stands at 1.24%. This news brings a positive outlook for consumers in Lima Metropolitan, as they may experience lower prices in their daily expenses. However, it is crucial to monitor future trends to ensure sustained economic stability.
