Gaming Revenue Shows Resilience in Downtown Las Vegas and Surrounding Areas, Despite Decline in Visitations

In a surprising turn of events, gaming revenues in key submarkets of Nevada have shown growth or resilience, even as visitations to the state have decreased significantly.

According to the latest data released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, gaming revenue in downtown Las Vegas increased by 19.2%, while game and table win decreased by 6.8%. This growth is particularly noteworthy as it comes against a backdrop of a 10.7% decline in convention attendance in June 2025 compared to the same month in the previous year.

In Southern Nevada, Laughlin reported a 6.6% increase in revenue, from $37.5 million to $39.9 million. North Las Vegas saw a modest increase in gaming revenue, with a 3.5% rise from $22.8 million to $23.9 million.

Reno, another major gaming hub in Nevada, also experienced growth, with a 5.6% increase in revenue, from $64.2 million to $67.8 million. Meanwhile, North Lake Tahoe saw a 4.6% increase in revenue, from $2.1 million to $2.2 million.

However, Elko County was the only location with a decrease in revenue, down 0.5%.

The Boulder Strip, a popular tourist destination, reported a significant increase in revenue, with a 19.3% rise from $73.2 million to $87.3 million. On the Boulder Strip, slot win increased by 20%, and game and table win increased by 13.1%.

The Strip, a part of Las Vegas, recorded a 0.9% increase in gaming revenue in June 2025, despite the overall decline in visitation.

Mobile wagers totaled $360 million, up 14.6%, and accounted for 72.5% of all wagers. Sportsbook wagers totaled $496.7 million, up 3.2% from last June. Nevada sportsbooks overall won 41.2% more than in June 2024, with a higher hold percentage of 8.5%.

Despite these positive figures, some areas of concern persist. Hotel occupancy in Las Vegas was 78.7% in June 2025, down 6.5 points from 85.2% in the same month in the previous year. Average daily room rates in Las Vegas were $164 in June 2025, a decrease of 6.6% compared to the same month in the previous year. Passenger traffic at Harry Reid International Airport fell 6.3% in June 2025. Average daily vehicle traffic on the I-15 from California also decreased by 4.3% in June 2025.

Las Vegas recorded 3.09 million visitors in June 2025, a decrease of about 400,000 people from June 2024. In Washoe County, slot win increased by 6.8%, but game and table win decreased by 7.3%. Statewide, table, counter, and card games win decreased by 6.6%, and games drop decreased by 3.9%, with a games hold percentage of 15.5%.

Despite these challenges, it is clear that gaming revenues in key submarkets have shown a remarkable ability to adapt and thrive, even in the face of declining visitations. As the industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how these trends develop in the coming months.
