Cologne Sharks Secure Victory Against Düsseldorf EG

In a thrilling ice hockey match, the Cologne Sharks emerged victorious against the Düsseldorf EG, securing a crucial 5-4 win. The game, played on a tense election Sunday, saw both teams start nervously, with numerous icings and mistakes.

The first period ended with Cologne leading 1-0, thanks to a quick wrist shot from Marco Muenzeberg. Düsseldorf responded swiftly, tying the game at 1-1 in the 20th minute with Kyle Cumiskey scoring on a breakaway, set up by Philip Gogulla and Drake Rymsha.

However, the Sharks regained their lead in the 25th minute, as Maxi Kammerer set up Parker Tuomie for a goal, making it 2-1. Cologne continued to capitalise on Düsseldorf's penalties, with Josh Currie scoring the 3-2 in a power play in the 37th minute.

In the second period, Düsseldorf showed an improvement in concentration and strength compared to their previous games. Despite this, they conceded a goal to Schuetz in the third Cologne power play, making it 4-2 for the Sharks (46'41).

Düsseldorf didn't give up and pulled everything forward, tying the game at 4-4 with a goal from Brendan O'Donnell (58'32), with Henrik Haukeland out of the net. The decisive empty net goal was scored by Schuetz, securing the 5-4 victory for the Sharks.

Looking ahead, Düsseldorf have a challenging schedule ahead, with their next three games against ERC Ingolstadt, Adler Mannheim, and Frankfurt Lions. The games against ERC Ingolstadt and Adler Mannheim are at home on Wednesday, February 19, and Friday, February 21, respectively.

Despite this defeat, Düsseldorf still have eight games until the relegation cliff. They will be hoping to bounce back and secure crucial points in their remaining fixtures.

The game against Frankfurt Lions is on election Sunday (February 23, 2:00 PM). Laurin Braun scored his third goal in three games, tying the game at 2-2 for Düsseldorf (36'53, assist Cumiskey).
