Delays in issuing casino licenses for New York State recanted by Gaming Commission
In the heart of New York City, the race for three upcoming casino licenses is still ongoing. The New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) is set to award these licenses to one of eight competing casinos by the end of the year.
Initiated as a significant step for New York's economic development, the casino licensing process has been praised by New York State Senator Joseph Addabbo Jr. as bringing substantial economic development opportunities. Addabbo highlighted job creation, better entertainment choices, and improved programs to address problem gambling as key economic benefits of the casino expansion.
Earlier reports suggested potential delays in the licensing process until 2026, based on Addabbo's statements. However, the NYSGC has since confirmed these reports as inaccurate. The commission has not yet announced the specific timeline for the selection of casino licensees, maintaining an air of anticipation around the industry.
Senator Addabbo has emphasised the importance of conducting the selection process with absolute integrity. He reiterated his initial stance, calling the casino licensing process a "critical step" for New York's economic development.
The story is being covered by Charlotte Capewell for Covers, as the casino race continues to unfold in the city that never sleeps. With no delays in granting the casino licenses confirmed by the NYSGC, the eight casinos in question are still in the running for a chance to join the New York City gaming scene.
It's important to note that, in 2021, no casino company among the eight received a licensing consortium approval from the New York State Gaming Commission. At that time, New York had not yet approved any online casino licenses, and the Gaming Commission was not expected to approve license applications before December 31, 2025.
As the race heats up, the casinos are gearing up to offer the best entertainment choices and address problem gambling responsibly, all while creating jobs and driving economic growth in New York City. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
