Delays to affect 11 departures at Sochi airport
In a series of delays and cancellations, numerous flights across Russia and beyond have been affected, causing inconvenience for passengers and disruptions to travel plans.
The troubles started early this morning, with a flight from Ulyanovsk being delayed for departure. This was followed by similar delays for flights from Novosibirsk, Norilsk, and St. Petersburg. The affected airlines at the resort airport, including Spirit Airlines, American Airlines, United Airlines, and Alaska Airlines, have been grappling with various issues such as technical outages and broader industry challenges.
At Kazan Airport, restrictions on the acceptance and departure of aircraft were imposed at 03:08 and lifted at 06:14. These restrictions may have contributed to the cancellation of a flight to Kazan, scheduled for departure at 13:30. The exact reason for the cancellation remains unclear, but it could be linked to the overnight restrictions at Kazan Airport on September 1.
The Moscow - Sochi flight has experienced a significant setback, with a ten-hour delay due to engine failure on the aircraft. Two flights from Moscow are also delayed for departure.
The disruptions are not limited to Russian airspace, as a flight from Istanbul is delayed upon arrival, and a flight from Yekaterinburg and Irkutsk are delayed for departure. Additionally, three flights are delayed for arrival at the resort airport.
Passengers are advised to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport, as the situation remains fluid. Airlines are working hard to minimise the impact on travellers and reschedule affected flights as soon as possible.
