Green Party in Saarbrücken Advocates for Traffic Measures to Protect Children and Improve Quality of Life

The Green faction in Saarbrücken is taking action to ensure the safety of children near schools and kindergartens, focusing on reducing traffic congestion. This initiative comes in response to the increasing use of Lebacher Straße as a transit route for trucks, which runs through a residential area.

Joseph Ignacio Rodriguez Maicas, the transport policy spokesperson of the Green Party faction, has stated that the current situation is no longer politically or socially sustainable. He emphasized that children should not have to fear cars or trucks on their way to school.

To address this issue, the Greens are advocating for a comprehensive relief of Lebacher Straße in Saarbrücken-Malstatt. Their core demand is a consistent ban on through-traffic for heavy goods vehicles in the Lebacher Straße.

In addition, the Greens welcome planned communication campaigns to promote cycling and public transport. They support measures such as color-coded and widened bike lanes, additional speed displays, and extended green phases for pedestrians and cyclists. According to the Greens, these measures serve traffic safety and simultaneously improve the quality of life in the neighborhood.

Large institutions like hospitals and training centers could take a pioneering role in promoting cycling and public transport. The Greens are committed to working with the city to implement these proposals as soon as possible.

The trigger for this initiative is a joint demand catalog of the local association Malstatt gemeinsam stark e.V. (Mags) and the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC). Rodriguez Maicas believes the proposal from Mags and ADFC shows the community's concrete ideas and expectations.

Rodriguez Maicas further stated that those who take climate protection seriously and at the same time want to relieve people locally cannot afford to hesitate any longer. Clear measures are needed for the protection of children, according to Rodriguez Maicas.

The Green Party in Saarbrücken will be obligated to enforce the proposed traffic measures in Lebacher Straße Malstatt through cooperation with the city council and local groups such as Mags and the ADFC. The Greens are determined to make Lebacher Straße a safer and more livable space for everyone, particularly children.
