The Buena Vista Labor Fest marked the official start of Virginia's fall election season, as prominent candidates from both major parties gathered to connect with voters and outline their visions for the state's future.

Among the candidates in attendance was Gubernatorial Candidate Abigail Spanberger, who emphasised her background in public service, having worked as a federal agent and at the CIA. Spanberger also highlighted her priorities, which include reducing the cost of living, housing, healthcare, and energy bills.

In the race for Lieutenant Governor, Democratic candidate Ghazala Hashmi and Republican candidate John Reid faced off. Hashmi, who has experience in education and the Virginia State Senate, outlined her priorities, which include healthcare access, education, reproductive freedom, environmental protection, and voting rights. According to polls, Hashmi led by about 5–10 percent in the 2021 Virginia elections, which took place on November 4.

Another notable candidate at the event was Democratic candidate Jay Jones, who is running for attorney general. Jones advocated for civil rights and healthcare and pledged to serve Virginians as his sole clients if elected. Jones also highlighted his efforts against ghost gun manufacturers.

Meanwhile, Jones' opponent, incumbent Jason Miyares, was also present, as was Republican candidate Winsome Sears, who is running against Spanberger for the governorship. Sears did not seek re-election as the incumbent Lieutenant Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, did not run for re-election.

Supporters of Spanberger highlighted the significance of the Buena Vista event, with Lisa Tracy stating that it is important for Virginia races. Brian McCanon also emphasised the need for informed voting.

The atmosphere at the Labor Fest was electric, with candidates working tirelessly to connect with voters and outline their visions for Virginia's future. From marches downtown to speeches at Glen Maury Park, the candidates left no stone unturned in their efforts to win over voters.

As the election season heats up, voters can expect to see more events like the Buena Vista Labor Fest, as candidates continue to make their case to the people of Virginia.
