Demonstration Staged in Decentraland Headquarters of Samsung, the First in Metaverse Protests

In the digital realm of the Decentraland metaverse, a virtual protest was staged outside Samsung's flagship store, organised by the non-profit Foundation Superflus. The event, held recently, saw a gathering of avatars, each adorned with custom wearable NFTs based on the artwork of Azerbaijan poet and artist, Babi Badalov.

The avatars carried picket signs with the text 'I Have A Scream' and wore red shirts that read 'Moneyfestation', a design inspired by Badalov's work. Participants received a free NFT of a custom wearable featuring Badalov's artwork as a token of their participation.

The artwork on these NFTs critiques consumerism and capitalism, reflecting the foundation's view of Samsung as a symbol of the hyper-commercialization of the metaverse. However, it is essential to note that Superflus did not organise the virtual protest to attack Samsung directly.

To participate in the event, participants were required to set up their own Metamask wallet. Superflus onboards participants into the metaverse or Web3 space for the protest, ensuring a smooth experience for all involved.

Participants have the option to sell their NFTs if they choose. A 2.5% royalty fee is applied for the artist on every transaction of the NFTs, ensuring that Badalov's work remains valued and acknowledged.

The first-ever metaverse protest, held by the Stiftung Kunst und Protest, featured the work of Azerbaijan poet and artist Babi Badalov, specifically his artwork "Monument for a Forgotten Future". This virtual event marks a significant step in the evolving landscape of digital activism, demonstrating the potential of the metaverse as a platform for expression and advocacy.

The Decentraland metaverse, a virtual reality platform, provides a unique space for such events, allowing participants from around the world to gather and make their voices heard in the digital realm. This protest serves as a reminder of the power of art and activism in challenging the status quo, even in the most unexpected of places.
