Design duo Luce and Luke Meier depart from Jil Sander fashion label
Jil Sander Bids Farewell to Lucie and Luke Meier After Nearly a Decade
In a surprise announcement following their A/W 2025 show in Milan, Lucie and Luke Meier have parted ways with fashion house Jil Sander after nearly a decade at the helm. The couple, who met in Florence while on placement courses at Polimoda, have been steering the brand with quiet precision since 2017.
Under their direction, Jil Sander has enjoyed steady commercial growth and maintained a strong market positioning. They have opened 18 new stores worldwide, and their swansong collection was described as 'a bright metaphor of love.' The collection displayed textural eclecticism, balancing sensitivity and the self-defensiveness of sleaze. Tough textures like leather jackets, pointy red shoes, and metal eyelets were balanced with angelic softness in looks featuring floral prints, girly lace, and feathers.
The Meiers have laid down a sensitive new visual language at Jil Sander, bringing the brand's sharp, clean legacy into a sensual new present. Collections, according to the pair, are always evolving as their ideas progress and change. Speaking to their website in 2023, the pair stated that collections are a 'timestamp on a period' and that fashion is a dialogue with what's going on in the world.
Throughout their tenure, the couple has built a community around the brand, evidenced by their long-standing relationships with creatives like photographer Chris Rhodes and producer Benji B. The show space emerged from pitch black darkness to a series of looks that sought light, and the collection was soundtracked by a 'vortex' of sounds and voices assembled by friend Benji B.
The successors to the Meier duo at Jil Sander have not been publicly announced yet. The website of Jil Sander offers a daily digest of inspiration, escapism, and design stories from around the world via a newsletter, and it remains to be seen how the brand will continue to evolve in the future.
Despite their departure, the Meiers have left an indelible mark on the fashion industry. Luke Meier was design director at Supreme and founder of OAMC, while Lucie worked at Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Dior. Their approach to fashion was described as exciting because it is a continuous dialogue with the world, and their work will undoubtedly continue to influence the industry for years to come.
