Desigual Joins the Accessories Boom

Catalan fashion brand Desigual, founded by Thomas Meyer, has joined the growing trend of expanding its accessories offerings. Following in the footsteps of companies like Mango and Blanco, Desigual has chosen to boost its accessories division, aiming to close 2011 with a total of a hundred new points of sale.

Desigual's first accessories store can be found at number 64 on Goya Street. While there is no specific date given for the opening of its first accessories store chain, the company has recently converted one of its stores into a point of sale dedicated to accessories and complements.

This move comes as the accessories sector has been the strongest in the face of the economic situation. Luxury brands have seen sales of accessories not only not slowing down but growing during the crisis. This trend is evident in the recent launch of Custo Barcelona's first collection of accessories and bags at the beginning of the year, as well as Mango's opening of Mango Touch, its own chain dedicated exclusively to accessories, this year.

Inditex, the parent company of Zara, also opted to boost its bet on accessories in 2008 by launching Uterque, a brand dedicated to the commercialization of accessories, fashion complements, and a small selection of textile garments. Uterque now has 87 stores and is present in 16 countries.

Blanco was one of the pioneers in starting the trend of dedicate stores for accessories, but the fact that the trend has not been repeated in this paragraph does not mean it is not being followed by other companies. Desigual plans to open new stores dedicated exclusively to accessories under the Blue Bags society.

Custo Barcelona, currently undergoing a business restructuring, aims to boost its accessories line in 2011, but the location of its first accessories store has not been specified. Desigual, led by Manel Adell, registered a turnover of 440 million euros last year and operates more than 200 own stores distributed worldwide.
