Manhunt Continues for Alleged Double Cop Killer Dezi Freeman

A manhunt is underway in the rural community of Porepunkah, approximately 300km north-east of Melbourne, for Dezi Freeman, the accused double cop killer. Freeman is wanted by Victoria Police following a deadly ambush at his property on Tuesday.

The search efforts, involving more than 450 police officers, have been ongoing for days. Police helicopters and drones have been circling the area, and the search has extended to examining disused mines, caves, and dugouts. Tough conditions, including thunderstorms, lashings of rain, hail, and low temperatures, have impacted the search, but the police remain undeterred.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim De Waart were killed while serving a warrant on Freeman for alleged child sex offences. The pair were farewelled with full police honours last week at Melbourne's Victoria Police Academy, with Detective Thompson's service taking place on September 8, and Senior Constable De Waart's service scheduled for September 5.

Amalia Freeman, the wife of Dezi Freeman, has released a statement urging her partner to turn himself in. She expressed condolences for the families of the slain cops and stated that she supports Victoria Police in their search for her husband and will cooperate with them in any way possible. Amalia Freeman and their 15-year-old son were arrested on Thursday night and interviewed, pending further inquiries.

The demand for the arrest of Dezi Freeman, if he does not surrender voluntarily, has been expressed by the Victoria Police. A 1 million dollar reward has been offered for information leading to his capture, and the police chief Brett Kahan and Victoria Police have emphasized the urgency and seriousness of apprehending Freeman, who is considered armed and dangerous.

The community has shown its support for the fallen officers during this weekend's finals, with players, umpires, and officials from local sporting associations wearing blue arm bands in their honour.

Dezi Freeman was last seen wearing dark green tracksuit pants, a dark green rain jacket, Blundstone boots, and reading glasses. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to contact Victoria Police immediately. The search for Freeman continues, and the community remains on high alert.
