Detecting security check at Frankfurt Airport
Frankfurt Airport has introduced new full-body scanners in specific areas, including departure areas A and Z and the new Terminal 3. The goal is to process more passengers per hour, reducing waiting times during the busy summer travel season.
The new scanners, which have been tested since February, are primarily located in departure areas A and Z, which are mainly used by Lufthansa, and the new Terminal 3 will also be fully equipped. However, it's important to note that the new scanners are not available at all security lanes in Frankfurt Airport. Approximately 40 lanes currently have the new technology.
Dennis Wildhirt, from airport operator Fraport, claims that there are no longer any long wait times at passenger controls during the summer travel season, thanks to the new scanners.
In a separate development, passengers at some German airports, including Frankfurt, will be able to take larger bottles of liquids (up to 2 liters) in their hand luggage from mid-September. This policy change does not affect the use of the new scanners at Frankfurt Airport.
Fraport has presented the new scanner as part of its efforts to improve the passenger experience at Frankfurt Airport. At the remaining security lanes, the rule of maximum 100-ml bottles in a 1-liter plastic bag still applies. Passengers are advised to be aware of which security lanes are equipped with the new technology and to check before bringing large bottles if they are uncertain.
The new policy regarding larger bottles of liquids in hand luggage is a separate development from the introduction of the full-body scanners at Frankfurt Airport. The new scanners are designed to help combat long lines at the airport and are expected to process around 30 percent more passengers per hour.
In conclusion, Frankfurt Airport has introduced new full-body scanners in specific areas to improve the passenger experience and reduce waiting times. While some passengers will now be able to carry larger bottles of liquids in their hand luggage, it's important to note that the new policy does not apply to all security lanes at the airport. Passengers are advised to check which lanes are equipped with the new technology before travelling.
