Dining Updates from Las Vegas: Access to Nobu; Health Department Shuts Down Notable Italian Eatery

In the vibrant dining scene of Las Vegas, a unique opportunity is on the horizon for food enthusiasts. On September 17, 2025, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, renowned for his Michelin-starred restaurants and signature dishes like black cod miso and yellowtail jalapeño, will be conducting a sushi-making class at his restaurant in Caesars Palace.

The event, organised by Caesars Palace, promises to be an unforgettable experience, offering attendees the chance to learn sushi-making techniques from the master himself. The evening will culminate in a meal of sushi, signature dishes, and craft cocktails, making it a perfect blend of education and indulgence.

Details and scheduling for the sushi-making class are either not publicly posted or may be available only through direct contact with Nobu Hotel or Nobu restaurant at Caesars Palace. It’s recommended to inquire directly with Nobu at Caesars Palace for the latest information about any sushi classes or workshops they might offer.

Meanwhile, other dining establishments in Las Vegas are undergoing changes. The Wynn's SW Steakhouse closed on June 16 for a refresh and is set to reopen on Aug. 7. Battista's Hole in the Wall, a vintage Vegas Italian spot, initially announced a closure for renovations but has since delayed its reopening until July 10, or possibly later, due to missed inspection appointments and delays in rebuilding the restaurant's roof and installing a new industrial air conditioning system.

First Watch, an American brunch chain, will open its first Las Vegas venue on Aug. 25 near the Cannery Casino at 1020 E. Craig Road in North Las Vegas. Two other First Watch locations will open in Henderson by either the end of the year or early next.

The X Pot, a hot pot hot spot in The Venetian, will close for remodeling after its last service on July 31 and re-emerge in October with a buffet line combined with table service.

However, not all news is positive. The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) temporarily closed Mezzo Bistro & Wine in northwest Las Vegas on June 26 due to multiple food code violations, issuing a total of 38 demerits for infractions including dirty food contact surfaces, lack of adequate refrigeration, bare-hand food contact, food not protected from potential cross contamination, pest control measures, and a lack of equipment maintenance. Similarly, the SNHD also closed Yun Nan Garden in Chinatown on June 24, issuing 44 demerits for violations including improper handwashing, spoiled, contaminated, or adulterated food, food at improper temperatures, food not protected from cross-contamination, and equipment not properly designed, maintained, and operated.

For those interested in attending Chef Nobu Matsuhisa's sushi-making class, tickets start at $500 per person and can be purchased at a specified location. The senior VP/GM of Caesars Palace, Terrence O'Donnell, has made a statement about the event, expressing excitement and anticipation for what promises to be a memorable evening.
