In an unusual turn of events, passengers onboard the Munich-Hamburg route's ICE 704 were asked to switch trains in an isolated location in the Spessart region, following a technical issue with the train's air conditioning system.

The stranded ICE 704, carrying 353 passengers, came to a halt between Würzburg and Fulda due to a defect in its air conditioning system. As a result, Deutsche Bahn officials made the decision to evacuate another ICE train, the ICE 502, which was stationed in Würzburg, to serve as a replacement.

The "train exchange" process, overseen by both the railway and the federal police, lasted until the evening hours. The passengers of the stranded ICE were instructed to transfer to the evacuated ICE 502, which had been stationed at Würzburg station.

The railway and Deutsche Bahn spokesman expressed their apologies for the delays and inconvenience caused, urging passengers' understanding in this unexpected situation. They confirmed that the switch of trains went smoothly, with no reported incidents.

The operating station where the stranded ICE stopped was Rohrbach in the Main-Spessart district, while the station where the replacement train was evacuated is located in Würzburg, Germany.

Corresponding passenger rights regulations apply to those affected by the delay in the Munich-Hamburg route. The German Railway issued an apology for the disruption and assured passengers that they are working diligently to ensure smooth operations moving forward.
