Disastrous music event in Zandvoort
In the second practice session at the historic Zandvoort circuit, McLaren's Lando Norris set the fastest time with a time of 1.09,890 minutes, edging out Fernando Alonso by a mere 0.087 seconds.
The session, which was led earlier by Lance Stroll, was marked by multiple interruptions due to incidents. Aston Martin's Lance Stroll himself was involved in a crash, while Isack Hadjar spun out in Turn 8, prompting the deployment of the Virtual Safety Car. Another incident involving Oscar Piastri and George Russell in the pits could potentially lead to a penalty.
Yuki Tsunoda finished the session 0.3 seconds behind Max Verstappen, with Lewis Hamilton spinning in Turn 9 during the practice. Alex Albon's mistake in Turn 1 caused the second red flag of the day.
Despite these setbacks, Aston Martin should have mixed feelings about the session. While Lance Stroll's crash was a disappointment, Fernando Alonso's strong performance, finishing second, provided a silver lining.
Last year, Norris dominated the Zandvoort weekend, and he seems poised to repeat that form this year. However, the race is far from decided, with George Russell, Max Verstappen, and Lewis Hamilton following closely behind Norris and Alonso in the standings.
Elsewhere, McLaren's Oscar Piastri set the fastest lap of the day with a qualifying lap of 1:08.662. The teams placing 2nd to 10th in the race were not specified in the search results. The fastest lap in the race was also by Piastri with 1:12.271.
Charles Leclerc finished in eighth place, representing an improvement for Ferrari who struggled in the first practice, finishing in 13th and 14th places. Williams, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm, settling for 16th and 17th places in the session.
As the weekend progresses, the teams will be looking to fine-tune their strategies and prepare for the qualifying session and the race itself. With the unpredictable nature of the Zandvoort circuit and the close competition among the drivers, the Dutch Grand Prix promises to be an exciting event.
