Discovering the Hidden Gems of Northern Corsica Through Its Breathtaking Bike Paths
New Adventure Awaits on the GT20 Cycling Route
The GT20 cycling route, inaugurated in 2020, offers a breathtaking journey connecting Bastia to Bonifacio over nearly 600 km. This epic ride is divided into twelve stages, each offering unique landscapes and experiences.
The journey begins in Cap Corse, a long finger of land jutting into the Mediterranean. The first four stages trace the east coast, swept by winds, before reaching Calenzana. This picturesque town serves as a bridge between two worlds: Corsica for cyclists and Corsica of the trails.
In the second stage, cyclists will be treated to the beauty of Balagne, with verdant hills, silver olive groves, and villages clinging to slopes. The route passes through Patrimonio, a high place of viticulture, and Nonza, known for its extraordinary beach of black pebbles. Arrival in Saint-Florent, near vineyards, marks the end of the second stage.
The third stage leads to Centuri, renowned for its small fishing port for lobster. The route crosses the Agriates desert, a vast mineral expanse with fragrant maquis and mule paths.
The final stage of this prelude, from Belgodère to Calenzana, covers 43 km and passes through the villages of Speloncato, Nessa, and Cateri. The mountains reassert their dominance during this final stage, hinting at the great peaks within. Calenzana, the final destination of the first part of the GT20, is the starting point of the legendary GR20, a long-distance hiking trail in Corsica.
As the route continues towards Bonifacio, the landscapes and experiences will continue to astound. The GT20 cycling route promises an unforgettable adventure for any cycling enthusiast. So, grab your bike and get ready to explore the stunning beauty of Corsica!
