The International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) Conference, a gathering of the world's energy elite, made its debut in the MENA region this year, specifically in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 44th edition of the conference was held under the theme "Pathways to a Clean, Stable, and Sustainable Energy Future."

Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia, inaugurated the six-day event. He also highlighted the importance of the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC), stating that it is one of the most empowered think tanks in the world.

The discussions at the IAEE Conference focused on a variety of topics, including opportunities for advancing the 'hydrogen economy.' Predictions suggest that hydrogen will soon start competing with traditional energy products and become the global product promoting multiple paths to clean energy production.

Attendees mapped a road to smart energy solutions, focusing on access to sustainable and safe electricity supply in Europe. They also examined an analytical study on the consumption of renewable energies in Arab countries.

The future of Hydrogen was reviewed in a panel discussion, with a focus on affordability, energy security, and diversity. Besides the Ministry of Energy of Saudi Arabia and KAPSARC, other involved parties in analyzing opportunities for advancing the Hydrogen Economy included the Saudi Association for Energy Economics (SAEE) and academic or policy research teams associated with KAPSARC, such as researchers like Dr. Marcello Contestabile and Dr. Nicholas Howarth.

During the sessions on Sunday, geopolitical risks, protecting energy, measuring energy security risks in Southeast Asia, and enhancing competing interests in terms of energy transition, security, and justice were discussed.

It's important to note that no new date was provided for this specific set of discussions. However, the IAEE Conference is a significant event in the energy sector, and its focus on the hydrogen economy and clean, sustainable energy solutions underscores the growing importance of these topics in the global energy landscape.
