Freelance journalist Eva-Martina Weyer, known for her dedication to tobacco farming in the Uckermark region, is set to read from her debut novel, 'Tabakpech', on September 5th at 8 p.m. at the "Haus der GΓ€ste" in Feldberg.

The sweeping family saga, which has garnered attention for its intricate narrative, is set against the backdrop of tobacco cultivation in the Uckermark and spans from the 1930s to the 1990s, encompassing significant periods of change such as World War II, East German collective farming, and the fall of the Berlin Wall.

'Tabakpech' tells the story of Elfie, a farmer who trades her dream of becoming a singer in Berlin for life in the tobacco fields. The novel's plot is heavily influenced by Weyer's personal experiences with tobacco farming, and the juice that oozes from the tobacco plant during harvest, known as 'Tabakpech', plays a significant role in the narrative.
