Discussion on Adolescent Sexual Health: "Let's Open Up About Intimacy and Wellness!"

In Herford, Germany, on September 18, 2025, the "Women's Health" working group is organising a conference focused on the sexual health of young people. The event, taking place at the Herford County Administration Building (Amtshausstraße 3, 32051 Herford), is open to teachers, school social workers, and other professionals.

The full-day conference, which begins at 8:30 AM, aims to address the topic of sexuality in school life, a topic that has become increasingly relevant due to the digital dimension. Topics such as sexting and cyberbullying are now present in classrooms, and the conference seeks to provide practical insights and guidelines on how to address these issues.

Expert speakers from various fields will offer their knowledge and experience. These include Dr. Anna Müller, a specialist in adolescent medicine, Prof. Dr. Max Becker, a psychologist focused on youth sexual health, and Sarah Hoffmann, a social worker with expertise in youth counseling.

The conference program includes the basics of sexual education, dealing with digital risks, and medical focuses such as endometriosis. Approximately two million women in Germany suffer from endometriosis, a chronic condition that often begins in adolescence. On average, it takes seven to ten years for endometriosis to be diagnosed.

Sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia, are on the rise, with around 300,000 new cases nationwide each year, particularly affecting young people and young adults. The conference will also focus on this issue, providing valuable information to help combat the spread of such infections.

The conference encourages networking among teachers, school social workers, and counseling services, fostering a collaborative approach to addressing the challenges faced by young people in regards to their sexual health.

Participation in the conference is free of charge, and the detailed conference program can be requested from the Herford County Equal Opportunities Office. Registration can be done via the provided website.

The conference is intended to fill a gap in addressing the topic of sexuality comprehensively in daily school life, providing a valuable resource for those working with young people.
