Disgruntled BHC Coach Pütz Expresses Frustration Over Poor Results

Bergischer HC, led by trainer Markus Pütz, kicked off the 2025/26 Handball Bundesliga season with a challenging match against the German champions, Berlin Füchse.

The team started off conservatively, as Pütz admitted that the opening game was the simplest for them. However, they showed bravery and were satisfied with their performance in the first 40 minutes, with a competitive scoreline against the champions.

The second half began promisingly for Bergischer HC, with an opportunity to take the lead. Lukas Diedrich, the new goalkeeper, provided stability, and Sören Steinhaus also made a significant contribution in goal.

Despite the promising start, the team's performance in the last 20 minutes was less impressive. Too many simple mistakes, both in attack and defence, led to a wild and chaotic end to the game, resulting in a defeat for Bergischer HC.

On the other side of the court, Jaron Siewert, the youngest coach in the Handball Bundesliga at just 22 years old, acknowledged that his team let Bergischer HC back into the game due to poor retreat management. Berlin, however, demonstrated incredible quality in fast breaks and one-on-ones, with Mathias Gidsel scoring an impressive ten goals despite good defensive efforts from Bergischer HC.

Fabian Gutbrod, Sporting Director of Bergischer HC, acknowledged a nervous and error-prone start by the team. The youth showed in the last 20 minutes, as the team struggled to maintain composure.

Looking ahead, Bergischer HC will look to put this defeat behind them and focus on their next game, a home match against Erlangen on Wednesday. They will aim to secure two points with their first-half performance and build on their positive start to the game against Berlin Füchse.
