Disney postpones live-action adaptation of 'The Aristocats'

The Aristocats, Disney's beloved feline film about Duchess and her family of three kittens, has faced yet another setback in its live-action remake journey. Ahmir Questlove Thompson, who was originally set to direct the project, has stepped away from the production for the third time due to a reshuffling within Disney's administration.

Thompson had presented his vision for the adaptation, which included music examples and teammates, to the first new management. However, with two more management changes, the project was eventually canceled. In an interview with Score: The Podcast, Thompson revealed that the project had been scrapped by Disney.

The live-action remake of The Aristocats was initially intended to be part of Disney's ongoing series of live-action reimagined projects. Thompson, known for his work with The Roots and as a producer, had expressed his desire to work on the project but stated that there are over 20 other projects he could work on instead.

Questlove, who is also a member of the band The Roots, had stated earlier that there are other projects he could work on instead of The Aristocats. He presented music examples and teammates for his vision of the adaptation, but the reshuffling within Disney's administration ultimately led to the project not being meant for him.

The Aristocats, first released in 1970, tells the story of Duchess and her family of three kittens who are kidnapped by their butler and must find their way back to the heart of Paris with the help of Thomas O'Malley, a street cat. The original film was originally intended to be directed by Thompson, but it seems that the live-action remake was not meant to be.

As of now, Disney has not appointed a new director or made any announcements regarding the future of the live-action remake of The Aristocats. Fans of the original film will have to wait and see if the project will be revived in the future.
