"Disney reveals upcoming projects 'Toy Story 5,' 'Avengers: Doomsday,' and a range of other significant films at Destination D23 event"
Get ready, animation enthusiasts! Some of the most anticipated projects are on the horizon, as Marvel Studios, Pixar, Walt Disney Animation, and Disney+ have announced a packed slate of upcoming projects.
Firstly, the long-awaited "Toy Story 5" is scheduled to release on June 19, 2026. Directed by Andrew Stanton, the film will introduce a new villain named Lilypad, an iPad in a frog-themed case. Comedian Conan O'Brien will voice a new character named Smarty Pants in the movie. Piper Curda and Bobby Moynihan will provide voice talent for "Hoppers," a new original comedy from Pixar, scheduled to release on March 6, 2026.
In the world of Disney, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw" premieres on Disney+ on Dec. 5. Chris Diamantopoulos is voicing Frank Heffley, while Aaron D. Harris is voicing Greg in this much-anticipated film.
Meanwhile, fans of the beloved "Zootopia" franchise can rejoice as "Zootopia 2" is scheduled to release in theaters on Nov. 26, 2025. Ke Huy Quan, Quinta Brunson, Fortune Feimster, Shakira, and Patrick Warburton are new voices joining the cast. Warburton will voice Mayor Winddancer, while Yvette Nicole Brown voices both EMT Otter and Baroness Bear.
For those who enjoy the thrilling world of TRON, "TRON: Ares" is arriving in theaters on Oct. 10, 2025. Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, and Jeff Bridges star in this action-packed film. The movie also features a score by Nine Inch Nails.
In addition, the TRON Lightcycle Run rides in Florida and Shanghai will be temporarily taken over by "TRON: Ares" starting Sept. 15. The original "TRON" films will be released in 4K Ultra HD on Sept. 16.
Lastly, Disney is hosting Destination D23 in Orlando, Florida, for fans to get a sneak peek at these exciting projects and more. One of the upcoming original features from Walt Disney Animation is "Hexed," which follows a teenage boy and his perfectionist mom who discover his odd behavior is actually magical.
