Disorderly BBQ scene in Solingen: Federal Security Service (BfS) alleges city's negligence, possibly endangering residents

In the city of Solingen, a heated controversy has arisen over the handling of the grill ban during the drought. The Citizens' Initiative for Solingen (BfS) has accused the city administration of endangering public safety by setting up contradictory rules and not enforcing them consistently.

The BfS, a group advocating for the rights of Solingen's citizens, has questioned the competence of law enforcement officers in judging hazard situations alone. The organisation has also raised concerns about the lack of external expertise involved in the decision to rescind the grill ban, particularly in light of a subsequent forest fire in the Kohlfuhrt that caused significant damage.

The grill ban was lifted at Bärenloch, despite the fire risk this created, according to the BfS. The city administration, however, claimed that the area was deemed safe enough after a thorough assessment, based on fire safety regulations and public interest considerations.

The Engelsberger Hof announced a grill ban due to the drought, but the Municipal Ordinance Service (KOD) did not enforce it, allowing grilling to continue. This lack of enforcement led to littering, lack of consideration, and open disregard for the rules at Engelsberger Hof.

The BfS believes that the citizens have a right to protection and reliability, not chaos and endangerment by their own city administration. The organisation considers the current situation in Solingen as a fundamental issue, not just a discussion about grill places.

The decision to rescind the grill ban was made by an unspecified entity, and the basis for this decision remains unclear. The BfS has also questioned why no fire department was called in to assess the fire risk professionally.

The council meetings in September and October are likely to focus on responsibility, credibility, and leadership strength of the administration. These meetings are expected to evolve into a fundamental debate about the administration, with the BfS warning that Solingen is sending a disastrous signal by endangering the safety of people and nature.

The BfS warns that if contradictory decisions continue to be made in similar situations, it could potentially lead to catastrophic consequences. The organisation urges the city administration to take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens.
