In the quiet morning of August 25th, a traffic accident occurred at the intersection of Kessenicher Straße and Jülicher Ring in Euskirchen. The incident involved two drivers, one from the Rhein-Erft district and the other a local resident of Euskirchen.

At around 6 AM, the 72-year-old driver from the Rhein-Erft district was driving on the Jülicher Ring towards Kölner Straße. Ignoring a red light at the intersection, the elderly driver collided with the other driver coming from the right, who was a 59-year-old resident of Euskirchen, driving on Kessenicher Straße towards Euskirchen-Kessenich.

Both drivers were injured and required immediate medical attention. The 59-year-old driver was extricated from her vehicle by the fire department before being transported to the hospital. The 72-year-old driver also received medical treatment at the scene and was later taken to a hospital.

The accident caused a temporary closure of the intersection until 8:55 AM to allow for the investigation and cleanup. The responsible police authority for the incident was the Euskirchen Police Department (Polizei Euskirchen), with their traffic accident recording team managing the incident.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, but it serves as a grim reminder to always adhere to traffic rules and signals for the safety of all road users. Our thoughts are with the drivers involved in the accident, wishing them a speedy recovery.
