District of Regensburg acquires a versatile watercraft for the fire department stationed at Wörth.
New Multipurpose Boat Enhances Disaster Control in Regensburg District
A new multipurpose boat has been handed over to the Wörth fire department in Regensburg, Bavaria, marking a significant upgrade in the region's disaster control capabilities. The new acquisition, which replaced a predecessor model that had been in use for nearly three decades, was initiated by the County Fire Chief Wolfgang Scheuerer in 2024 to ensure long-term operational readiness.
The handover ceremony was attended by Bavarian State Minister Tanja Schweiger, who emphasised the boat's importance for fire and disaster protection in the district. The new vessel, designed for multiple purposes, will be used for fighting fires from the water, searching for missing persons, evacuations, laying oil barriers, and more.
The aged predecessor model, due to its advanced years, had become increasingly unreliable, with scarcity of spare parts and high repair costs making further operation impractical. A first test drive of the new boat took place on August 31, 2025, demonstrating its readiness for service.
The multipurpose boat is a central deployment vehicle for the Wörth fire department, significantly contributing to the safety of citizens throughout the district. Its versatility makes it an invaluable asset in various emergency situations, ensuring the department is well-equipped to handle a wide range of challenges.
The initiative for the replacement procurement of the multipurpose boat in Wörth was started by the then district fire chief Wolfgang Scheuerer. His foresight and commitment to maintaining the department's operational readiness have resulted in this much-needed upgrade.
The new multipurpose boat is in compliance with the Bavarian Fire Protection Act and is set to play a crucial role in regional disaster control for years to come.
