Novak Djokovic Advances to US Open Semifinals, Eliminating Last German Singles Player

In a tense match on Tuesday, world number one Novak Djokovic secured a hard-fought victory against American Taylor Fritz to advance to the semifinals of the US Open. This win comes after Djokovic's convincing three-set defeat of Jan-Lennard Struff in the previous round.

Struff, who had impressed with victories against Holger Rune and Frances Tiafoe, struggled to match his aggressive game against Djokovic. The Serbian player dominated the match, winning with scores of 3-6, 3-6, 2-6. This was their eighth meeting, and the eighth time Djokovic emerged victorious.

Struff admitted that Djokovic "tore him apart" during the match. He also acknowledged his own mistakes, saying he made too many errors and struggled with his serve, committing six double faults at crucial moments.

Mats Hummels, a former football World Cup winner and ex-Borussia Dortmund defender, was in Struff's box but could not help him turn the tide. Djokovic, on the other hand, seemed unfazed despite receiving treatment during changeovers.

Struff's defeat at the US Open marks the elimination of the last German singles player. However, Struff can console himself with $400,000 (€340,000) in prize money from the Grand Slam season.

Looking ahead, Struff will play for the German Davis Cup team, aiming to qualify for the final round in Tokyo on September 12-13. Only the winner of the Davis Cup final round will play for the title in the final week of the nations tournament, from November 18-23.

Meanwhile, Djokovic hopes to make his daughter Tara, who is celebrating her 8th birthday at home, happy by winning at the US Open. His next opponent in the semifinals will be either Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner.

Despite his success at the US Open, Djokovic's performance did not meet the expectations set by his previous matches. He seemed to improve as the match progressed, unlike his earlier rounds. Regardless, his victory against Struff brings him one step closer to his 21st Grand Slam title.
