Dog That Inspired a 200-Mile Journey Returns Home After Three Weeks Apart With Its Owner
In the pictures sent to Ingrid Cooke, Ozzie, her five-year-old terrier cross, appears to be well and is eating well. This comes as a relief after three weeks of searching for him.
Ozzie went missing on 10th May in Devon, UK, when Cooke opened her car door. The search for him was initiated by Cooke with help from a dedicated community of volunteers and lost pet search organizations.
Several sightings of Ozzie were reported, but he was too timid to be found without the use of a humane trap. At 5 am, volunteers in the neighboring county of Cornwall caught Ozzie in the trap set up for him.
The volunteer group Cornwall Search Dogs is now taking care of Ozzie. He is currently at a vet's in Falmouth.
Ozzie was a rescue dog that Cooke has had since he was a puppy. When she first got him, he "didn't know how to play and didn't understand what toys were." Now, it seems he has adapted well to his new home.
The search for Ozzie, who was found 200 miles from his home breed area, has been a nerve-wracking experience for Cooke. She spent her vacation in Devon searching for him, even extending her stay by two days, but had to return home without him.
However, the news of Ozzie's discovery brought joy to Cooke. Volunteers informed her that Ozzie had been found, and she responded, "It's brilliant news - he's coming home! I'm ecstatic. I've been through all the emotions today - laughing and crying."
For pet parents, the thought of their furry friend running away or going missing, especially when on vacation in an unfamiliar place, is a pet parent's worst nightmare. Thankfully, Ozzie's story has a happy ending, and he will soon be back home with his loving owner.
