Growing up, Donald attended Greeley High School, graduating in 1965. Following his schooling, he enlisted in the Army, serving from 1967 to 1969 and earning the rank of Specialist E-4 in Avionics. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1969.

After his military service, Donald continued his education at Aims Community College (University of Northern Colorado) from 1965 to 1967. Following his studies, he worked for Sears before starting his own fence company. However, it is worth noting that more specific details about his career are not readily available.

For over 20 years, Donald worked at the Isle of Capri Casino, Blackhawk, a testament to his commitment and hard work.
