Downtown Road Closures Due to Nagar Kirtan Sikh Parade
Annual Nagar Kirtan Sikh Procession to Cause Road Closures in Downtown Winnipeg This Weekend
The annual Nagar Kirtan Sikh procession is set to take place in downtown Winnipeg this weekend, and with it comes several road closures that residents and commuters should be aware of.
Organised by local Sikh community organisations and gurdwaras, including the Sikh Cultural Society of Winnipeg, the procession is a significant cultural event for the city's Sikh community.
Starting from 7 a.m. on Saturday and lasting until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Memorial Boulevard will be closed between York Avenue and Broadway. During this time, transit buses will be rerouted to avoid the affected area.
Furthermore, on Sunday, Memorial Boulevard will also be closed from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The road closure on York Avenue will extend from Memorial Boulevard to Garry Street, and Garry Street will be closed from York Avenue to Broadway, all at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Westbound Broadway will be closed from Garry Street to Memorial Boulevard, and Northbound Osborne Street will be closed between Broadway and York Avenue, both from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Broadway will be closed from Osborne Street North to Kennedy Street, and York Avenue will be closed from Osborne Street North to Memorial Boulevard, both from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
The city is advising residents to check its interactive lane closures map for potential partial or full closures. This tool can help commuters plan their routes accordingly and avoid any inconvenience caused by the road closures.
The Nagar Kirtan procession is a vibrant and colourful event that brings together the Sikh community and the wider Winnipeg community to celebrate their shared values and culture. We encourage everyone to respect the road closures and enjoy the event responsibly.
