Draw no blood in Leeds United's battle against Newcastle United as Woltemade witnesses a struggle in offensive efforts by Howe's team.
In the latest Premier League clash, Newcastle United faced Leeds United, extending their winless streak to five games. The Magpies, managed by Eddie Howe, have not tasted victory in the league this season.
The match, which saw the debut of Nick Woltemade, a German striker who joined from Stuttgart for €80m (£69m) on the same day, was a tight affair with a combined expected goals (xG) of 1.01. Newcastle managed 0.42 xG, while Leeds United tallied 0.59.
Despite the opportunities created, both teams struggled to find the back of the net. Only three shots were on target during the match, with one for Leeds and two for Newcastle. Notably, Jacob Murphy had two chances to score for Newcastle, but both were saved.
The best chance of the game fell to Leeds United, but a save from Nick Pope prevented a goal by Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Jayden Bogle also provided an opportunity for Calvert-Lewin to score, but his shot was blocked.
Regrettably, Newcastle have failed to score in four of those five games, more than in their previous 28 league matches. This is their longest run without a win since October 2024, also five games.
Alexander Isak, a striker, was not present for the match due to reported push to join Liverpool. Anthony Gordon, a winger, was suspended for the match against Leeds United.
Eddie Howe will hope Nick Woltemade can continue to perform after the international break, regardless of Alexander Isak's decision about joining Liverpool. The new coach of Newcastle United starting after the international break is not yet known, as the focus has been on player transfers like Woltemade's move.
Interestingly, the match between Fulham and Manchester United produced just 0.93 xG, making this encounter between Newcastle and Leeds United one of the least productive in terms of expected goals this season.
Despite the current struggles, Newcastle United fans will be hopeful that better days are ahead, as the team continues to strengthen their squad in the transfer market.
