FC St. Pauli and Holstein Kiel Play Out a 1-1 Draw in Friendly Match
In a closely contested friendly match played behind closed doors at Holstein Kiel's training ground during the international break, FC St. Pauli and Holstein Kiel ended in a 1-1 draw.
The first half of the match saw FC St. Pauli take the lead, with Oladapo Afolayan scoring in the 41st minute. However, Holstein Kiel equalised in the 55th minute, thanks to a goal from Marcus Müller.
Both coaches, Ole Werner of FC St. Pauli and Marcel Rapp of Holstein Kiel, used the friendly to work on tactics and give their players match practice. Several youngsters featured for FC St. Pauli, while Holstein Kiel's defender, Luca Zander, played his first match of the season.
Prior to the match, both teams held a training session together. FC St. Pauli's goalkeeper, Robin Himmelmann, saved a penalty kick during the friendly, highlighting his impressive performance. However, Lennart Thy of FC St. Pauli was not involved in the friendly due to a minor injury, and Holstein Kiel's midfielder, Jannes Fjørtoft, was also absent due to an injury.
Despite the draw, FC St. Pauli's head coach, Ole Werner, highlighted the importance of the friendly match for providing match practice to young players. Holstein Kiel's head coach, Marco Kurz, expressed satisfaction with his team's performance in the friendly.
After the friendly, FC St. Pauli's next Bundesliga game is against FC Augsburg on September 14, while Holstein Kiel's next Bundesliga game is against FC Schalke 04 on September 13. FC St. Pauli's next friendly match is scheduled for September 11 against Werder Bremen II, while Holstein Kiel will face VfL Osnabrück on September 12.
