Monster Truck Driver Derek "Barney" Barnum's Vehicle Damaged in Suspected Drunk Driving Incident

Derek "Barney" Barnum, a well-known monster truck driver in Oregon, is facing an unexpected challenge after his iconic truck, "Pure Insanity", was hit by a suspected drunken driver over the weekend.

Barnum, who designed and built the truck by hand in his office, was grateful no one was seriously hurt in the accident that occurred around 4 p.m. on Saturday. However, the damage to his '73 Dodge pickup truck is extensive.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office reported that the driver involved in the accident now faces charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, and second-degree criminal mischief.

The weight of Barnum's truck is 6,825 pounds, but the driver's actions caused significant damage. The truck's bent wheel and rear axle housing were damaged, and the damaged axle shaft is irreplaceable.

Barnum will need to cut up, tear apart, and straighten whatever is bent in his truck to get it back on the road. This repair work is expected to take a considerable amount of time, a concern for Barnum who shows "Pure Insanity" at around a dozen shows a year.

Before the accident, Barnum heard a noise that sounded like a rocket, and his truck was lifted off the ground. The incident has never happened to Barnum's truck before, making this a unique challenge for the experienced driver.

Despite the setback, Barnum remains positive and is already planning for the repairs. "Pure Insanity" is more than just a truck to Barnum; it's a testament to his "crazy vision" and hard work. Barnum looks forward to getting back on the track and continuing to entertain audiences with his monster truck.

At this time, no relevant information about an attack on Barnum's monster truck or related charges in Oregon was found in the search results. Barnum is focusing on the repairs and getting his truck back in working order.
