Drognitz Blaze: Three houses and four barns reduced to ashes by the inferno
In the past few days, the region of Thuringia has been hit by a series of unexpected incidents.
A major fire broke out in the small town of Drognitz, belonging to the municipality of Kaulsdorf. The fire, presumed to have been caused by a lightning strike, has resulted in extensive damage. Three houses and four barns were completely destroyed, and an estimated one million euros worth of damage has been reported. The fire has now been extinguished, but firefighters are still on site to remove any remaining hotspots.
The road through Drognitz remains closed for the time being due to the fire, causing school buses to be rerouted. The municipality of Kaulsdorf has set up a donation account for those affected by the fire. The exact cause of the fire is still unknown due to ongoing extinguishing operations and a possible risk of collapse.
In a related development, two firefighters were injured during the firefighting efforts. However, the names of the injured firefighters have not been disclosed in the available information. County Commissioner Marko Wolfram thanked everyone who helped fight the fire and expressed sympathy for the affected families.
Meanwhile, in Erfurt, two trams collided on the Anger, with the cause being determined as a human error. No serious injuries were reported, and the trams are being inspected for damages.
Elsewhere in Weimar, a 74-year-old pedestrian died after a collision with an E-scooter. The electric scooter was occupied by two teenagers who drove off after the accident. The police are asking for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Additionally, stumbling blocks in Weimar have been vandalized again, along with several posters for the Achava festival and a banner with the slogan "Open-minded Thuringia".
In a separate incident, a truck accident occurred on the A4 near Mellingen, resulting in the driver being injured.
A thunderstorm occurred in Drognitz, Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district, adding to the challenges faced by the firefighters.
The police are asking for any witnesses to the fire in Drognitz to come forward, as the investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
