Dubai's Arbitration Center Recognized as a Global Leader in the GAR 100 Rankings Report
Dubai's Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) Rises as a Global Leader in Arbitration
In a significant development, the Dubai International Arbitration Centre (DIAC) has cemented its position as a leading global authority on arbitration. According to the latest GAR 100 Data Report, DIAC has been ranked tenth globally in arbitration activity based on the number of cases handled, and ninth in arbitration case value.
Since 2022, DIAC has undergone several transformations, introducing new arbitration rules, a restructured arbitration court, and an expanded board of directors. These changes aim to enhance the centre's efficiency and effectiveness in resolving disputes.
DIAC's strong reputation is built on its reliable enforcement mechanisms, legal framework, and ability to handle high-value disputes efficiently. Over the past three decades, DIAC has handled over 5,000 cases valued at more than AED100 billion.
The report's findings reaffirm Dubai's position as a trusted global arbitration hub, a title that Jehad Kazim, the Executive Director of DIAC, has highlighted. Kazim, who took over the position from Michael Hall, emphasised that these rankings underscore Dubai's growing influence as a leading centre for international arbitration.
Dubai's rise in the arbitration world is noteworthy, as it has surpassed 405 arbitration hubs, including New York and Geneva, to claim the fifth most popular arbitration seat worldwide by case volume. Dubai also ranked ninth in total arbitration case value, outperforming major cities such as Seoul and Frankfurt.
The leadership's goal is to make DIAC one of the top five arbitration centres worldwide. Operating under the strategic vision of H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, DIAC is the only arbitration centre from the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia (MEASA) region to feature in the global top 10.
The GAR 100 Data Report, a comprehensive analysis of global arbitration trends, analysed 11,200 arbitration cases from 2015 to 2023. The report positions Dubai as a leading global authority on arbitration, following its ranking as the fifth most popular arbitration seat worldwide by case volume.
These rankings directly support the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to make Dubai one of the top five arbitration centres worldwide. With its continued growth and success, it seems that Dubai is well on its way to achieving this goal.
