Duke Street community on agenda for Alexandria's second land use assembly meeting
The City of Alexandria is inviting community members to attend a Duke Street Land Use Plan Community Meeting on September 25. The meeting will take place at Bishop Ireton High School cafeteria, located at 201 Cambridge Road, and is accessible via the free DASH Bus Route 30, with entrance through Door 15 off the Lower Lot.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and includes a presentation and question-and-answer session, followed by facilitated discussion. City planners will present a summary of feedback received from the community and draft guiding principles for the Duke Street corridor. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in these discussions about the proposed principles.
For those unable to attend in person, the presentation portion will also be available online via Zoom. A recording of the Sept. 25 meeting will be posted on the project webpage following the event.
Community members driving to the meeting should park in the Lower Lot. Food, childcare, and language interpretation in Spanish and Amharic will be available.
After the Sept. 25 meeting, opportunities to provide feedback on the draft guiding principles will be available on the Duke Street Land Use Plan Engagement Hub, an interactive webpage for digital engagement opportunities launched by the city. The Engagement Hub currently features a "Live, Work, Play" interactive map, and additional digital engagement opportunities will be offered on the hub as the planning process progresses.
For more information, contact Brandt at 703-746-3859 or connect through WhatsApp. Requests for interpretation in other languages must be made to Christian Brandt, Urban Planner, by September 18.
Following the Sept. 25 meeting, a schedule of future community meetings and pop-up events will be posted on the project webpage. Information about upcoming meetings and engagement opportunities will be communicated through the city's eNews, WhatsApp, and community group networks.
Community members are encouraged to visit the Engagement Hub at the project website to stay informed and engaged in the Duke Street Land Use Plan process.
